The Calvella Studio is situated at the end of Pryme Street, Anlaby, which is on the outskirts of west Hull. It is a modern purpose built studio fitted with mirrors, barres, central heating, disco lights, double sprung floor and good changing facilities. There is also a free car park for our students. For the benefit of parents/friends a coffee shop is situated next to the studio where light refreshments are on sale. We now have a small dancewear shop situated in the coffee shop area where ALL Calvella regulation uniform can be purchased. IDTA Examinations take place in May every year at our studio and these are open to all students. However, the main aim of the school is enjoyment, and I can assure you your child will progress at exactly the same level whether you decide to enter examinations or otherwise.
Every July the School performs a Summer Show and Presentation Evening. During the summer holidays we proivde a week of dance workshop, where the children will perform a small show at the end of the week to friends and parents. In January each year our annual Pantomime is held.
For these shows stage costumes are required, but please be assured we keep the cost to an absolute minimum by taking full advantage of the Studio’s large wardrobe and utilising the excellent costume hiring facilities whenever possible.
The studio is very popular for Dance Parties. Our assistant teacher takes charge of these parties, which takes the pressure off the parents, by organising games and finishing with a dance routine to be enjoyed by all for the parents to watch.

- Miss CarolinePrincipal
I started dancing at the age of 2 when I joined Calvella Studio as a Calvella Cutie. This is where I first became part of the Calvella Team. Over the years I progressed through all the ballet and tap grades, graduating in both disciplines by the time I was 20. During these years I made many life long friends and I have enjoyed and performed in many shows, various charity and local events.
My mum founded the school over 40 years ago and I took over as Principal in 2001. Dancing has always been a major part of my life and I am sure it has enhanced my educational aspirations and has given me confidence with interviews and business presentations. Through the love of dancing I changed my career to become a Primary school teacher. I also have studied and graduated in Drama. I am an associate of the London College of Music. In 2014 we became known as the Calvella School of Performing Arts and we have now incorporated Musical Theatre into the school, which helps with our annual pantomine.
