Excel Performing Arts is an exciting performing arts school in St Albans and has been set up from the need to find good quality training in the performing arts that is not only fun but taught by professionals with a wealth of performance and teaching experience. We offer high quality classes in Ballet, Tap, Street Dance, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Drama and Singing for students from 3 years old.
Under the expert direction of Leading West End Performer – Steven Houghton, who has for the last twenty years worked extensively in television, film and as a leading man in the West End. With over eighteen West End shows under his belt as well as an Olivier nomination, he more than qualifies to pass on his knowledge and expertise. Steven teaches and lectures all over the country for professional performing arts schools as well as for dance associations such as British Association of Dance Teachers and the International Dance Teachers Association.

- Sam PaytonPrincipal
Sam began training at the ‘County School of Dance’ in
Leicester. At the age of eighteen she was one of twenty young
dancers chosen nationally to be part of ‘The National Youth
Dance Company’ and consequently got the chance to work
with the top choreographers of the day as well as touring the
UK.
Sam went on to train professionally for 3 years at ‘The
Northern School of Contemporary Dance’ in Leeds and on
leaving joined’ The National Ballet Company’ in the
production of ‘Aida’ at The National Indoor Arena in
Birmingham.
Sam went on to work with various choreographers in
pantomimes, summer seasons, commercials and videos.Steven HoughtonArtistic DirectorSteven initially began training from the age of eight at the
Betty Chappelle School of Theatre Dance in Penistone,
Sheffield, and later at the Northern School of Contemporary
Dance in Leeds.
Steven has performed in over eighteen West End shows,
many as the leading man. His theatre credits also include an
Olivier nomination for his portrayal of Keith Nicholson in
Spend Spend Spend. Television and Film Credits include:
Gregg Blake in London’s Burning (LWT), Captain Barker in
The New adventures of Robin Hood (Warner Bros), Brett
Grey in Doctors (BBC), Scott Bridges in Holby City (BBC),
Tonio in Alive and Kicking (Film Four) and Jeff Cullen in
Coronation Street (ITV). Steven regularly lectures all over the
UK and was made an honourary member of the IDTA for his
services to dance. He continues to perform as well as
regularly teaching at Excel Performing Arts.Nadine CoxTeacherNadine has been in many West End shows including Wicked,
Billy Elliot, Mamma Mia to name just a few.
Nadine once won the title of 'Miss Dance of Great Britain' as
well as winning various tap championships.
As well as teaching for Excel Performing Arts, Nadine
