The Julie Stevens School of Dance first opened its doors at the local village hall back in 1988. the school now boasts its own 2 storey building consisting of a basement changing room and a first floor fully equipped dance studio.
Pupils are taught all genres of dance including ballet, theatre craft, modern jazz, tap and musical theatre.
Apart from the schools’s annual IDTA examinations, pupils are also encourages and given the opportunity to dance in many amateur and professional shows including touring shows and pantomimes. In the past there have been many memorable moments performing alongside Alvin Stardust in ‘The Butlins Story’ and ‘The Stephen Mulhern Show’ both of which were staged at the local Butlins resort in Skegness. The school also stages its own production every 18 months at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness where each pupil can enjoy rehearsing and performing alongside their fellow pupils. With the studio being located at a seaside village and a stones throw away from the beach, the children often enjoy taking part in the local carnival celebrations by the sea!
Many pupils have gone on to further their training at performing arts colleges such as Urdang, Italia Conti Performing Arts, and Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama. The school is very proud of its family oriented approach and of all its achievements so far.
