Formby High School

Dance is a popular and successful subject within our busy Perfoming Arts Department which offers a wide range of exciting performance opportunities.

.

It is a flourishing subject at GCSE, BTEC and A Level and involves practical, technical, theoretical and performance elements in a diverse range of genres and styles. Our students are encouraged to study dance history and composition, analysing the work of leading choreographers and dance companies.

.

The Department supports the development of young choreographers at all levels and many students act as young dance leaders within Formby High School and via outreach work with local primary schools.

.

Our extensive extra-curricular programme incorporates year group dance clubs, specialist dance master-classes at Key Stages Three and Four, technique classes, our boys’ dance company and ‘Eleven’, our Sixth Form Dance Company, who recently performed at the national platform for Youth Dance England.

.

To extend learning, students can now integrate dance into the BTEC Performing Arts course offered in Sixth Form.

.

We are fortunate to have developed close partnerships with many leading dance companies and specialists including Rambert Dance Company, Matthew Bourne, Stomp, Ludus Dance Company, the Chomondleys and Featherstonehaughs and other experienced West End professionals.
