KDTA (Korea Dancesport Teachers’ Association)

The process of development of dancesport in Korea.

The development of Korea dancesport had been started in 1980’s with economic development. Of course, there was a lot of difficulties, because the social perception of dancing was really bad in Korea. But, as the chance of 88 Seoul Olympic, social perception of dancing became more better. Mr.Kim established ‘Kim,Jong-Moon’s Ballroom dance institute’ in 1984. And he has trained dance teachers who will be able to get their certificates from UK. To do so, 25 korean dancers had started to set up ‘The Federation of Dancers’, and gathered all together to study on every Sunday. And they have tried to make up the way of systematic training and development. So, each members took on each sectional committees. That ‘The Federation of Dancers’ has been laid the cornerstone of Korea dancesport Teachers’ Association(KDTA). Both Kim&Um have studied to become a good dance teacher for their association, and also tried to get the certifications of fellowship(both of Latin&Ballroom). And they had tried hardly to train their students for IDTA exam. Both of them finally became IDTA examiners in 2000. After then, They had realized that dancesport is the sports for all through their experience. So they have done their best to bring up dancesport as Sports for all for Korean people. In 2010, they finally established ‘Seoul Dancesport Federation of Sports for all’. Kim&Um have requestd to IDTA that they would be able to hold exam-event in Seoul, soon after, every twice a year, they have opened an exam-event at their office on Hongdae in Seoul. Now that, they have around 2,000 Associates, Licentiates, and Fellowships who were successed from exam long time ago. And also Kim&Um have been holding ‘The IDTA-KDTA Cup International Dancesport Championships’ from 2002 till now for Korean dancers’ dancing ability.
