Sylvaine School of Dance

It was while attending Meersbrook Bank Junior School that Miss Perry had the ambition of having her own dance school called ‘The Sylvaine School of Dance’, the name combining both her first names: Sylvia and Elaine.

The Sylvaine School of Dance was founded in November 1967 when Miss Perry, the Principal, opened the school at the Meersbrook vestry hall. Twelve little girls attended the first lesson.

Over the years a huge number of girls, boys and adults have attended the school and many pupils have progressed into teaching and professional dance careers.

Today we offer a range of classes for ages 2 1/2 to adult in all theatre subjects. We welcome the serious student and those who dance just for fun. Professional coaching for trainee dance teachers is available. Students of all ages and ability have the opportunity to perform in our biennial show and we also hold open classes and take part in community events throughout the year.

Sylvaine has a dedicated staff of five teachers who are all committed to seeing our students progress and sharing our enthusiasm for dance.

The Sylvaine School of Dance always prides itself on being a very friendly school.
