- Alexandra TavenerTeacher and Principal
A gifted performer herself, Alex won many wards as a child dancer and has appeared on stage from an early age. As an adult she qualified and practised as a children’s nurse for 12 years but always continued to work with amateur dramatic and musical societies. With the arrival of her own children she took up teaching at Dance Doctors Studios and Harmony Dance School before starting Alexandra’s School of Dance and Theatre in 2012. For Alexandra the learning and enjoying clearly carries on – in Erewash Musical Society's production of Gypsy she played the leading role which won the regional NODA award for the best show, in other shows displaying her other talents including choreography. She has coached all her pupils to exam success earlier this year, and has recently completed her Diploma in Musical Theatre with The Royal London College of Music, as well as continuing her dance teaching studies with the IDTA
Susannah WattsTeacherDancing has always been a big part of life for Miss Susannah. Having started at age 2, by the time she was eighteen she had qualified as a dance teacher, also she has competed in lots of regional dance festivals during her training and attended many professional master-classes both locally and in London.
Since then she has also qualified as a cheerleading and gymnastics coach and judge, working across the East Midlands.
She passionately believes that all youngsters should be encouraged to join in physical movement, “Dancing gives you the fundamentals or life and sport”.
Rachael BrownTeacherA talented singer, actress and dancer with professional experience ranging from music videos to regional theatre and some film and TV credits too, Miss Rachael is able to teach and choreograph many different styles of dance.
Having trained at Bird College in Kent and with the Central School of Ballet, Miss Rachael was able to study for advanced exams in the three largest international dance associations, the RAD, IDTA and ISTD.
She brings her enthusiasm for all things to do with dance and theatre to working with Miss Alex. And just to prove it, in their spare time they are members of the same theatre group together, ‘The Cast’, whose last two shows have been greeted with rave reviews.
Yasmin LakhanTeacherAn experienced street-dancer and performer, Miss Yasmin has successfully joined the teaching team at Alexandra's SDT bringing her characteristic enthusiasm and energy to teaching. as someone who has always enjoyed dancing herself she is pleased to add Alexandra's to the plethora of local primary schools in which she currently teaches.
Miss yasmin is also currently studying for a degree in Child Development Studies so she can back up her practical knowledge with academic understanding.
