Since Janice Turner started the school, Harlequin has grown into an established thriving theatre arts school.
Our exceptional team are well qualified, caring and interested in the development of the students regardless of their ability, making classes fun for all. All teachers are CRB checked and hold current chaperone licences. There is a great family atmosphere and we hold many extra curricular activities such as parties, outings and fun days.The broad range of classes offered provide serious study to classes just for fun, from baby and toddler through to adult. We prepare students for dance and drama festivals, IDTA exams for dance and Lamda exams for drama. School productions provide opportunities to involve the whole school in plays, musicals, variety shows and pantomimes.
Harlequin actively supports local community events and can be seen taking part in displays, fetes, carnivals and shows. Many of our students take part in local amateur dramatic shows put on by the Peacehaven Players.
Harlequin offer classes in Ballet, Ballroom, Drama, Disco, Freestyle, Latin, Modern Jazz, Musical Theatre, Street, Tap, Adult Ballet and Adult Tap.

- Janice TurnerPrincipal
Janice is a Member of the International Dance Teachers Association and is qualified to teach Ballet, Tap, Freestyle Disco, Rock’n’Roll, Old Time Dancing, Stagecraft and Theatrecraft. She is also a Championship Adjudicator in Freestyle Disco and Rock‘n’ Roll. Trained locally and in London Janice has been teaching for 37 years and continues with her professional development keeping up with changes in trends and styles. She has run workshops and classes locally and throughout the south of England in state and stage schools and colleges and has choreographed many professional and amateur productions including shows at the Theatre Royal, The Dome and Pavilion Theatre in Brighton, the Wimbledon Theatre in London and theatres in Peacehaven, Eastbourne Worthing and Horsham.
Harlequin students have travelled all over the south and as far as Belgium, France and Germany representing the school in competitions and shows. Many of Janice’s students have been extremely successful in dance festivals leading to All England Finals. A number of them have gone on to successful careers as dancers or teachers all over the world.Since Harlequin opened its doors 37 years ago, under Janice’s guidance the school has grown from offering dance lessons into a theatre arts school providing training in all aspects of dance, drama and theatre.
Zoey-Ann DeanBallet, Tap, Street, Freestyle & Jazz TeacherZoey started dancing at the age of 6 at Harlequin Studios, and began her teacher training here when she was 17. She has been teaching dance for 20 years now.
Zoey took part in many disco dance competitions from the age of 7 to 17 travelling all over the south east of England and sometimes further afield. Her professional experience includes taking part in pantomime at the Theatre Royal in Brighton as a youngster. She joined the Young London Ballet Company and performed at the Sadlers Wells Theatre in London which included training weekly at the famous Pineapple Studios . She was also part of the Rupert the Bear Road Show performing all round the country including a performance on Saturday morning TV on the Wac-a-Day Show.
Zoey teaches freestyle disco, street dance, ballet, tap and modern jazz dance. Over the years she has performed in many Harlequin productions and is now part of the production team for the Harlequin shows.Charlotte WilliamsBallet, Tap, Modern/Jazz, Latin & Ballroom TeacherCharlotte is the newest member of the Harlequin dance teacher team, and is currently continuing with her teacher training with us, having already qualified in Pre-Associate Ballet Grade Preparatory up to Grade 4. She was also successful in achieving A-level in Contemporary Dance. Charlotte is now preparing for Associate exams in ballet, tap, jazz and Latin ballroom.
Charlotte has successfully completed grade exams in ballet, tap, disco and jazz. She
competed in disco competitions and has also competed nationally in ballroom and Latin competitions.
Charlotte has performed in Harlequin shows and pantomimes for various other groups including professional work.Zoe GilesDrama & Singing TeacherZoe, as a child, completed her Guildhall drama examinations, was a member of the National Youth Theatre Co, and Sussex Youth Theatre and an avid performer in pantomimes, plays and festivals, winning the championships at both Worthing and
Brighton Drama Festivals.
Zoe went on to graduate with an HND in Performing Arts and a BA Hons in Theatre Arts, alongside completing an intensive screen acting course. Zoe has since taught drama and
singing freelance, working for herself taking issue/themed workshops to schools and has worked for schools including Stagecoach, Perform, Brighton Young Performers, Bigfoot
and Stonelands. Most recently Zoe was the permanent drama teacher at Bognor Secondary School, teaching year 8 up to A level students.
Zoe’s TV credits include ‘Sugar Rush’ (Channel 4), ‘The Bill’ (ITV) and ‘Eastenders’ (BBC). She has had lead roles in several feature films including the role of Charlotte in ‘The Great Ecstasy of R Carmichael’ starring Danny Dyer.
Zoe’s other professional work includes TV adverts such as ‘Phones for You’, and ‘Pepsi’ and corporate videos such as promos for IMP prison magazine, bomb awareness for the internet and 02 company training films. Most recently Zoe has worked as a voiceover artist advertising on Juice FM and voicing the avatar ‘Ella’ on Dida software which is sold to secondary schools worldwide. -
