- Yvonne MakinsPrincipal
Yvonne is the Principal of Trevonne Stage School.
Trevonne was established 1973- Yvonne took over the school at the age of 21 when she was a newly qualified teacher, it was initially a small school of 12 pupils and the first classes were held in the Drill Hall on Asfordby Road. Trevonne was originally a small branch from Ann Oliver’s dance school in Leicester. Yvonne started as just a teacher of this branch, and when it was threatened with closure she offered to take it over – and the success she made of these 12 pupils is Trevonne today!. The most rewarding part of being principal for Yvonne is seeing the progress the children make during their time at Trevonne with examinations and seeing their enjoyment on the stage. Yvonne says that after running the school for so many years it is always nice to see a former pupil return with their children- to date we have not yet had a pupil return with Grandchild. Yvonne’s main role at Trevonne now is overseeing the running of the school.Hayley SessionsArtistic directorHayley says: I danced at Trevonne from the young age of 2 & never really looked back. Until I was about 13 I just attended my dance lessons as so many young girls do it was then that I made up my first dance for a show, little did I know this then set me off on a path for my future. When I reach university age I left Melton and started a 3year course at London College of Dance. Whilst at university I travelled back and weekends and Thursday evenings to continue teaching at Trevonne. When finished university I had gained a BA Hons degree, ITDA & ISTD teaching qualification and “The up & coming Choreographer Award”. I then returned to Melton & Trevonne and really began getting my teeth into teaching & choreography.
“A teacher effects eternity, She will never know where her influences will stop” H Adams
The above quote is so true & I feel so privileged to have a job that means so much to me. Going to work is such a pleasure; you never know who is going to learn that tricky step they have been struggling with, or by slowly working with someone you can build their confidence & self-worth. I love passing on my knowledge & enthusiasm. Seeing pupils obtain fantastic exam results is also so rewarding particularly when you know how much hard work they have put in to achieve their results.
Children learn to dance for so many different reasons, fitness, confidence or living out their mums dream to name but a few. But those who carry on with it take with them not the only the years of training but a lifetime of memories & friendship. My closest friends are all part of Trevonne in some shape or form.
I wouldn’t wish to change being born into Trevonne, it is all I have ever known but I have a genuine passion for. Maybe that is why Trevonne is such so successful because we are a family run business with a team that have such a desire for what we do. All our teachers & staff were once young dancers themselves, then colleagues & now great friends.Zoe ElliotHead of Musical Theatre & senior dance teacherZoe has been with Trevonne for 28 years since starting dancing at the age of 14. Zoe discovered Trevonne through a friend at school and has been a massive part ever since. Whilst Zoe is trained in all areas, her main focus is teaching ballet, musical theatre and vocal coaching. Zoe finds being a teacher at Trevonne so rewarding as she loves being a part of helping pupils achieve their fullest potential in a caring and supportive environment, she loves being a part of such a wonderful team and she sees Trevonne as her extended family. Zoe says “Trevonne is all about inclusion, it is such a friendly place with talented people to work with and the caring and fun environment always shines through”. Zoe is proud to be a part of something so very special and dear to her heart.
