From Fitsteps & Salsacise (Salsacise being a more gentle form of Zumba!) to Ballet & Ballroom, we’ve got it all. All classes are on going, and taught by fully qualified teachers who are members of International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) United Kingdom Alliance (UKA) Allied Dancing Association (ADA). - Ann AthertonPrincipal
Trained at Liverpool Theatre School on a full time 3 year performing arts and teaching course. She left with all four Associates Ballet, Tap, Modern & Theatrecraft along with Dance Exercise Diploma. Completed NVQ in performing Arts, D32,D33 assessors award, Line Dance teaching Diploma & IDTA's AQA Educational Professional's & Licentiate Tap. After leaving college Ann performed Worldwide, travelling to Paris, Milan, Greece, Korea, Japan and the UK performing in Top Class Cabaret Venues. In 1995, Ann started Topaz Theatre Branch, teaching all Theatre Dance subjects alongside the Ballroom, Latin & Disco Classes that were already established at Topaz. Ann also served as secretary for the North West branch of International Dance Teacher's Association for six years, and is now an active committee member. In 2009, Ann took over the running of Topaz, after Brenda Hague, one of founding members of the school, retired.
Kate SmithDance TeacherKate has danced from the age of 3, joining Topaz when she was 15. She was nominated and took part in the IDTA Theatre Awards for ballet and tap, achieving a Commendation for tap. She has a degree in Dance from John Moores University and an Associate in Ballet teaching, and Pre-Associate 1 in Modern.
She has taken part in a nationwide tour of an Evening of Musicals and regularly performs at the Liverpool Empire with Birkenhead Operatic Society, perfoming in productions such as 'Crazy for You', 'Annie' and 'Beauty and the Beast'.
Amy SandersonDance TeacherAmy had a passion for dance from an early age. She studied at dance schools including Topaz, where she has been for over ten years, and also at performing arts colleges including Liverpool Theatre School. After study, Amy went straight into a performing career, performing in countries such as Cyprus and Greece, toured with a travelling circus, and worked as a resident dancer in venues such as an award-winning theme park. Throughout performing, Amy kept up teaching and always knew she would pursue this later on. She is always working towards enhancing her teaching qualifications and has her Associate Ballet, Pre-Associate 1 in Modern and Dance Exercise to Music Diploma. She has succesfully completed a Foundation Degree in Dance Teaching and BA Honours Degree in Professional Dance Development with Buckinghamshire New University, in conjunction with the IDTA.
Diane Schuster-CrawfordDance TeacherDiane is Ballroom and Latin teacher at Topaz. She began dancing lessons 9 and was taught by experienced and respected teachers Tom & Cynthia Maher at their local dance classes with whom she accomplished all of her amateur medals by the age of 18 to a very high standard. After taking time out to focus on her family and work commitments she returned to the dance floor, studied, and then achieved a highly commended professional status with the Allied Dancing Association. This has enabled her to embrace her passion for dancing once more and distil her expertise on her desired teaching path. She has found teaching extremely rewarding and enjoyable - she loves being able to pass on her skills and knowledge in a friendly, relaxed manner. She runs several classes /group lessons for all different levels of ability from absolute beginners through to experienced /advanced, plus private dance lessons for people wishing to have a personalised choreographed routine for any special occasion.
Lauren JamesDance TeacherLauren trained in all styles completing her training at Merseyside Dance & Drama Centre and Nazene Danielle School of Dance and is a qualified teacher with ISTD in the Modern branch. When Lauren was 15 she was in a girl band called Aurora and she has been part of the dance troupe 'Dance Dynamix' who reached the final of Sky TV'S 'Got to Dance'. She has also performed on tour with Clubland Live 3 alongside N.Dubz, Darren Styles, Agnes, Sklyla and went on to perform on Ultrabeat and Darren Style's Tours. Closer to home, Lauren has performed in panto, fashion shows, wedding shows and for Miss Liverpool & Mr Merseyside.
Louise BurgessDance TeacherLouise has been at Topaz for over 15 years and has successfully completed a Higher National Diploma in Dance and Pre-Associate 1 in Modern qualification. She is always fully involved with activities at Topaz and teaches our Saturday Ballroom, Latin and Disco class.
