The Betty Chappelle Dance Centre have been nurturing and developing young people’s potential for many years. We not only deliver quality in performance but ensure that each of our pupil’s gets the most out of their experience by building life skills and confidence while having a lot of fun and meeting new friends. Some of our students see dance simply as an enhancement to their lives, others have pursued careers in performance arts and progressed to become professional dancers, but whatever their ambitions or ability, we strive to teach to professional standards.
All our fully qualified staff are highly experienced teaching professionals whose performing careers have spanned West End shows, UK and World tours, commercial pop videos, Film and Television. All hold qualifications with the International Dance Teachers Association. We offer training for all ages and levels in the major subjects of Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz, Street Jazz, Musical Theatre, Gymnastics and Teacher training and while examinations are not compulsory, International Dance Teacher’s Association examinations are available to students and do help to monitor progress and maintain the high standards in our classes. All of our students are given the opportunity to participate in shows where their performance and stagecraft skills can be developed.

- Betty ChappellePrincipal
Betty Chappelle established The Betty Chappelle Dance Centre in 1965 which this year celebrates 50 years of dance. Over the years Betty has trained thousands of dancers in all aspects of Theatre Dance nurturing them from the onset of their journey. Numerous pupils have established successful careers in the industry, from Theatre, Fashion, West End, Television & Films. As a renowned coach & mentor for teacher training & continued professional development she is as ever in popular demand, her expertise & guidance being requested both in this country and overseas, indeed it was Betty who initially instigated the many schools in Portugal to qualify and teach Theatre Dance disciplines.
Betty is a Fellow & Senior examiner of the International Dance Teachers Association and was the creator of its Gymnastic Dance Syllabus which has been embraced worldwide, she is also a member of the Modern Jazz Faculty & pioneer in the re-construction of its syllabi for Grades, Vocational & Teaching qualifications. As a co-opted member of the All England Dance Panel she adjudicates Festivals & Championships in the UK & Europe.
A very busy lady who has over the years dedicated her life to the dance world and still teaches students and teachers on a daily basis she is determined to pass on her experience so others may achieve their very best and enjoy all the dance world has to offer.Linda ListerPrincipalLinda is a renowned and experienced Teacher, Lecturer, Adjudicator, Verifier and Senior Examiner of the International Dance Teachers Association Theatre Branches. On completing teaching training, her love of teaching led to work with children and students of varied abilities. To this date her energy and drive prove to be a positive influence for all age groups and standards.
Presently Linda has committed involvement to the following IDTA Committee, The Modern Jazz and Gymnastics Technical Committee, and the Miss Dance of Great Britain Organising Committee.
As a sought after Examiner and Adjudicator her duties have led her to travel not only throughout the British Isles but also on numerous occasions to Cyprus, Italy, Spain, New Zealand and Norway, where she also conducts master classes and teacher training courses on the IDTA ‘s behalf. Her development and reconstruction of the Modern Jazz Syllabus has led to many invitations for her to lecture at area meetings.Shani MitchellPrincipalA Fellow and Senior Examiner of the International Dance Teachers Association and Chairman of the Modern Jazz Technical Faculty.
Shani commenced her training at the Betty Chappelle Dance Centre where she now successfully runs one of the branches along side her mother, Betty Chappelle and Linda Lister.
She teaches Master classes at The Phil Winston's Theatreworks Blackpool, and has had input into the education of thousands of students who have established successful careers in TV, Theatre, West End, Cruise Lines and teaching careers.
Shani herself travels extensively to represent her chorographic and technical expertise conducting Master Classes, lectures and examinations in Portugal, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, France and Spain.
She was a principal dancer and soloist on Spanish Television's Entre Amigos, and worked with Shirley Bassey, Latoya Jackson, Donna Summer and Sacha Distel, to name but a few. Choreographer of Grand Christmas Productions for QDOS Entertainments in many prestigious Theatres in the UK working with celebrities such as Bonnie Langford, Robert Powell, Timothy Healey, Alan Fletcher and Paul Nicholas.
Principal Dancer and Rehearsal Director for Royal Caribbean International Cruise Line. Rehearsal Director and Choreographer ‘Sultans of the Dance’ and ‘Flames of Passion’ in Istanbul and International tours. -
