Carabela Dance Academy, established 1983, is a small, friendly school in Shard End, Birmingham. Lessons are available to children and young people from the age of 2 years, in Ballet, Tap, Modern Jazz, Theatre Craft, Freestyle and Gymnastics, following the IDTA syllabus. Singing and drama is incorporated into our lessons.
All students at Carabela are offered a variety of performance opportunities, including annual shows, local dance festivals, community fun days, fetes and events within the area and beyond. We have danced at numerous prestigious venues, including The Birmingham Hippodrome, The Alexandra Theatre, Centenary Square and Her Majesty’s Theatre, London.
Carabela offers affordable lessons and aims to be accessible to everyone, as we believe that everybody should be able to enjoy dancing! A great deal of fun is injected into each class, through tuition from approachable and friendly staff. Lessons are structured, yet relaxed, as we firmly believe that children and young people respond and learn better in this environment.
Lessons are held on Saturdays throughout the year, although there are closures at Easter, in the summer and at Christmas. We do expect a good level of attendance, to ensure that all pupils maintain the levels required and achieve to the best of their abilities.
Our dedicated team includes the Principal, along with 3 Senior Teaching Assistants, one of whom is our Gymnastics Coach. Our collective role is to encourage, build confidence and allow students to express themselves through dance, whilst enjoying a fun, active and sociable activity, whether it is as a hobby or to create further career opportunities. Some past pupils have progressed to study dance at university and various Theatre Schools, as well as dancing around the UK and abroad at holiday locations and on cruises.
