Gems Dance Academy strives to provide the highest calibre of staff who are highly motivated and skilled and who always hold the interests of the students first and foremost. We aim to provide the highest quality of tuition across all aspects and styles of dance and the performing arts.
Your child’s first class/day with Gems Dance Academy is free so that your child can try whichever classes they wish. Your child, and yourself, can then make an informed decision as to which classes they wish to enroll on. Gems Dance Academy operates a maximum class size policy which ensures that our classes do not become over-crowded and that every student gets the attention they require to develop. This means that once a class is full a waiting list policy is in place.
Students have the opportunity to participate in two annual shows; one in Winter (November/December) and one in the Spring (March/April). Students can also participate in an annual exam session aimed to be held in the summer (June/July). Participation in these events is optional but advisable to support the student’s growth as a performer.
We are open throughout the year including mainstream school half term holidays and only close at Christmas, Easter and for 4 weeks of the summer break. This limited closure ensures a continuous consistency in the training we offer. Gems Dance Academy also operate alternative (and optional) activities during our closed periods such as; Performers Camp, Supplementary classes, Private lessons and Educational trips.
Gems Dance Academy aims to create a friendly and caring atmosphere, combined with a hard-work ethic, to encourage and nurture every student to reach their full potential. We hope to inspire every student to be well rounded confident individuals with a passion for life as well as dance.

- Gemma WoodrowPrincipal & Instructor
Gemma established Gems Dance Academy in September 2013. She has extensive experience teaching, choreographing and preparing students and performers for shows, competitions and exams. Gemma is a full teaching Associate with the IDTA and puts her love of dance, especially ballet, down to the wide and varied training she received growing up. Gemma was able to study IDTA, ISTD and RAD ballet syllabuses and also trained with the Northern Ballet when she successfully auditioned for their Associate program. At university she obtained a BA Honours in Drama & Film Studies and she often utilizes techniques she learnt from this degree into her dance teaching, believing in the combined power of drama and dance to tell a story, convey emotion and encourage free expression in her students. Gemma is an original, creative and enthusiastic performer which is reflected in her dedicated teaching.
