DC Dance & Performing Arts offers high quality tuition for all, whether it be for pre-vocational training, competitions or simply just for fun.
All dance teachers at the school hold dance teaching qualifications with recognised boards, are CRB checked and hold valid insurance.
We offer tuition from beginner to competition level in Theatre, Freestyle and Ballroom genres. Our dancers are also given the opportunity to perform in our annual show and take part in many local community events.
The school also offers musical tuition, vocal tuition and provides holiday clubs and workshops during school holiday periods.
We have three well equipped dance studios, a music room, three waiting areas and changing and toilet facilities.

- Dawn ChapmanPrincipal/Teacher
Dawn has been teaching for over 17 years and is the principal of DC Dance and Performing Arts. Dawn holds teaching qualifications in many subjects within Theatre, Ballroom and Freestyle areas. In addition to her role as Principal at DC Dance, Dawn also teaches within the community as part of the DC Outreach Program.
Dawn enjoys continuing her professional development and believes that in order to teach others, constant learning and development is vital. She has recently graduated from Bucks New University with a Distinction in Foundation Degree in Dance Teaching and later, a BA (Hons) in Professional Dance Development, gaining First Class Honours results.
Although qualified in most dance genres, Dawn teaches mainly in the Theatre, Preschool and Ballroom departments at the school. Dawn has also taught many successful theatre students throughout her time at DC Dance.Nic ChapmanReceptionist/TeacherMiss Nic has danced since the age of three and studied NATD Ballet, Tap and Modern Theatre alongside UKA Ballroom, Latin, Modern Sequence and Classical Sequence. She has taken part in shows and competitions and has enjoyed much success.
Nic enjoys running the reception at DC Dance and Performing Arts and is the first person many of our dancers meet upon beginning classes at the school. Miss Nic is currently working towards qualifying as an Associate Level teacher with Melody Movement Early Learning in order to help out when required at the school in the pre-school dance section.
Alongside her work at the school, Nic is also pursuing her passion for photography and will be shortly opening a studio within the DC Dance studios.Jessica EarnshawDance TeacherAfter many years of studying Theatre, Ballroom and Freestyle subjects at DC Dance and Performing Arts, Jess went on to take her professional dance teaching exams with the IDTA and joined the DC Team full time.
Jess works within the Freestyle department at DC Dance and is an award winning Freestyle teacher after being chosen by the IDTA as the winner of the WJ (Bill) Tasker Award 2010 for her student teacher examination taken in the same year. Jessica has vast freestyle knowledge to pass on to her students after spending years competing in the field and gaining Championship Level. Jess is constantly training to update her knowledge of the ever evolving Freestyle department and has trained with Firefly Street Dance Company and has also trained with UDO in order to teach the new street dance syllabus.
Alongside teaching at DC Dance and Performing Arts, Miss Jess also teaches at Todmorden High School.Maddie GreenDance TeacherMaddie has studied at DC Dance and Performing Arts since its opening in 2002 and taken and passed many examinations with both the UKA and IDTA. She has also taken part in many shows and performances with the dance school. Maddie also studied gymnastics alongside her dance for many years and competed at regional and national level, a skill she is now helping to pass onto our students at DC Dance.
After starting as a classroom assistant at the age of 14, Maddie then went on to gain Distinction in her student teaching award taken in 2013 and has now passed her associate level qualification too. She will continue to teach at DC Dance whilst working as an accountant during the week. Maddie hopes to continue her professional development in the world of dance by taking further associate exams and diplomas. She is a valued member of the team with her precise work and attention to detail.Mary GreenDance TeacherAlongside her degree in Ballet Education, Miss Mary has also graduated with a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) programme, which specialises in the work of the RAD. Mary values her continual professional development and is currently enrolled on a Specialist Diploma in Advanced Matt Pilates course and is also studying with a professional break dance company to increase her knowledge in this genre whilst also studying for IDTA qualifications.
Throughout her dance training, Miss Mary has worked both as a dance teacher and information assistant at the Royal Academy of Dance in London and has gained much teaching experience from this post. She has also worked at numerous private dance schools and educational establishments around London.
Having completed the full RAD syllabus herself, passed examinations with the UKA and ISTD in other dance genres as well as competing at dance festivals Miss Mary has much experience to pass onto students at DC Dance and Performing Arts.Julie HarrisDance TeacherJulie began her personal dance training at the 'Dorothy Stevens School of Ballet' taking examinations with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) before training at dance college in London. She then went on to gain a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts in Huddersfield and trained as a qualified dance teacher with the International Dance Teacher's Association (IDTA). Julie has gained much teaching experience after teaching at a number of well established RAD and IDTA dance schools across Yorkshire with some of her pupils having been accepted into the Royal Ballet School, Northern Contemporary and various London studios.
Alongside her teaching Miss Julie is also continuing her professional development with the IDTA and hopes to gain Fellowship status shortly, with a long term goal of becoming an IDTA examiner. In her spare time, Miss Julie helps to choreograph for local amateur productions and also attends trapeze and aerial training.Alexandra TowendDance/Vocal TeacherAlex teaches theatre subjects at DC Dance including Tap and Ballet and Pointe Work.Alex has also more recently trained as a gymnastic teacher and is looking forward to providing workshops and classes at the school in this genre.
Alex provides vocal tuition at DC Dance and Performing Arts. She assists students who wish to audition to vocational colleges, students with vocal work for song and dance festivals and for those who simply just wish to sing!
Alex enjoys much success within the theatre world both as a performer and choreographer and is a NODA Award nominee. She has appeared in many starring roles in local productions of musicals and also choreographs for many local societies.
Alex has had much experience as an outreach dance teacher and is available for school, nursery and college work as a member of the DC outreach team.Janet AdamsDance Teacheranet has re-joined the DC Dance teaching team after spending three further years in Spain studying Flamenco and its culture. Janet is passionate about Flamenco dance and her teaching and knowledge is second to none. Janet's study of Dance Movement Therapy at the Laban Centre, London, has led her to promote self-confidence and expression through Flamenco dance.
Her classes are a true taste of Spain and are accompanied by live music provided by Janet’s partner Brian. Classes include Flamenco technique and choreograhpy, clapping rhythms, selillanas and much more. She teaches both adults and children the art of Flamenco at DC Dance and Performing Arts.Caron MayYoga TeacherCaron has been teaching for twenty years. As well as studying yoga, Caron has also had much dance experience and majored in ballet. Her experience and qualifications in dance and yoga have enabled her to work in many different places and with people across the world.
She has a background in performance where yoga has always played it's supporting role. It is great for stage nerves and tension but also for people suffering with sleep deprivation.
She is delighted to see the strength, release and space that it brings to others of all ages.Katrina HeathDance TeacherKatrina has a degree in Musical Theatre from Guilford School of Acting. After performing professionally for a number of years she then qualified as a primary school teacher gaining a PGCE from Bradford College. She left teaching to run a Theatre-in-Education company www.storymagictheatre.co.uk which tours primary schools all over the north of England. She is also an experienced children's entertainer.
Katrina now teaches many of our pre-school children at the school whilst building the musical theatre section. She plans to bring her wealth of experience to pupils at DC Dance and Performing Arts and hopes to expand this genre at DC Dance. She has more recently passed with Distinction the new IDTA Musical Theatre teaching diploma which is the first of its kind.
She is a valued member of the team and brings a wide performance experience to the school.Josie LewisDance TeacherJosie works in the Freestyle department at DC Dance and Performing Arts and teaches the senior freestyle evening and Boyz only street dance.
Josie has danced from a young age and after studying dance at Bury College, went on to take her professional teaching qualifications before teaching at dance schools around the North West. Josie has a vast competitive knowledge after having danced at Championship level herself and now helps to coach many of our competitive freestyle students at the school. Josie specialises in Street Dance and has helped to develop this subject with great success at DC Dance and Performing Arts.
Josie is an adjudicator and judges freestyle competitions around the North West.Nigel ForanDirectorNigel is the technical director at DC Dance and Performing Arts and runs the reception, examination, and dancewear centres at the school. He designed and maintains our website and looks after everything IT at the business. He also enjoys the artistic side of the business and helps to direct and organise the sound and production at the annual dance show. Nigel is passionate about the business and his focus is on the continuous development and promotion of DC Dance and Performing Arts. Alongside working at DC Dance and Performing Arts, Nigel runs his own successful IT business, www.bpcsupport.co.uk
