The Freda Gurney School of Dancing was established over 50 years ago by Freda Gurney who has since passed the school on to her daughter, Kim Jenkins. Kim is now assisted by her daughter Cara who intends to continue improving the school. Classes are taken every week by the same teachers to ensure that the pupils’ learning is built upon from the previous week. The dance school is continuing to grow without paying for any advertising, most new enquiries coming from referrals. Pupils are entered for IDTA examinations taking place locally at least twice each year and participate in annual show events.

Kim has been qualified with the IDTA in both theatre and ballroom branches since 1987, choosing to continue running the theatre dance school that was established by her mother in the 1960s. Kim has entered pupils regularly for IDTA examinations with 100% pass rate and successfully arranged charity show events and local displays for her pupils to participate in.
Cara passed her IDTA Associate Ballet with Distinction while gaining teaching experience within the dance school. She wishes to expand and develop in the future. Cara brings young enthusiasm to the classes with a modern approach to many styles, though the classical ballet class still remains her favourite. Cara has trained with the English Youth Ballet in two productions and enjoys choreographing dances for the local shows put on by the dance school.
