Established for over sixty years and with an excellent reputation in the area, the Audrey Spencer Theatre School provides a high standard of dance training in a wide variety of dance genres from beginners to a professional level.
Whether students want a hobby or to take their training to a highter more professional level, there is something to suit everyone.

We offer IDTA exam sessions throughout the year and dancers have opportunities to work at a competitive level. We also hold our shows in the local professional theatre in which all the students in the school are involved.
Past pupils have gone on to enjoy a career performing in the West End, on Cruise Ships, TV work and in teaching. If you don’t want a career in dance we believe that dance can equip you with many important life skills: confidence, socialising, good posture, communication etc. There are so many ways in which dance can enrich your life!

Joanne Perkins is a Fellow member of the IDTA. She trained at the Audrey Spencer Theatre School from a young age going on to become a teacher in a number of dance schools and colleges in the UK and in Germany.
Joanne took over as Principal of the school in 2010. She has expanded the range of classes offered in the school: these are a great success, demonstrated by the students acheiving highly in examinations with some being nominated for the IDTA Theatre Dance Awards.
Amongst dance teaching, Joanne has choreographed for a number of Amateur Dramatic Societies and fulfils her creative side through choreographing routines for festivals and shows.
